Congressman Norcross endorsed by Sierra Club

(Cherry Hill, NJ) – Today the Sierra Club, the nation's largest and most influential grassroots environmental organization, announced its endorsement of Donald Norcross for Congress in New Jersey’s 1st District.

“I am honored to have the support and endorsement of an organization that is constantly working to protect our air, water and land,” Norcross said. “My promise is to continue to fight for a cleaner and safer New Jersey for our children that respects and protects our climate and preserves our open spaces.”

Throughout his tenure in public office Congressman Norcross has fought to keep New Jersey clean and green. In a short period of time serving in the House of Representatives, he has been a strong proponent of President Obama’s Climate Action Plan, fought for more federal resources for Superfund site cleanups, and successfully fought against plans for offshore drilling along the Jersey Shore.

“The Sierra Club is proud to announce our endorsement of Representative Donald Norcross for re-election in 2016. He has been a true environmental leader in Congress. Whether it’s working to protect our water, our air, or public lands, he is there fighting for us. He is a leader on wind and solar and energy efficiency and working to reduce climate impacts. Rep. Norcross has stood up against the Tea Party and the Republican right and their assault on clean energy, climate change, and rolling back clean water protections. He is working to protect and expand public lands and he is himself an avid hiker and outdoorsman.  He has stood up for the EPA to prevent rollbacks on carbon emissions and drinking water,” said Jeff Tittel, Director of the New Jersey Sierra Club. “Rep. Norcross is working hard to protect the environment and the health and safety of the people in his district, as well as nationally.”

The Sierra Club is a national, member-supported environmental organization, which seeks to influence public policy in both Washington and the state capitals through public education and grass-roots political action. With about 20,000 members, the New Jersey Chapter is the tenth largest of the 65 chapters in the USA, Canada and Mexico.

Tittel continued to laud Norcross for the work he has done and will continue to do if he is reelected.

“We both sat on the board of Work Environmental Council on which we worked together on Right-To-Know, environmental health, and public safety issues. Now Donald Norcross has one of the best records on the environment in Congress,” Tittel said. “We strongly support his re-election to Congress and will continue to work with him to champion environmental issues that matter to all of us.”

In accepting the Sierra Club’s endorsement, Congressman Norcross also reaffirmed his commitment to representing South Jersey in Congress: "I am focused on improving life for New Jersey's working families and fighting to protect our environment, grow jobs and raise wages, make college more affordable, provide top quality health care, and keep our nation and our neighborhoods safe and secure."

Congressman Norcross has been endorsed for re-election by the campaigns of both Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders, as well as the Democratic Parties of Burlington, Camden, and Gloucester County. For more information about Congressman Donald Norcross’s campaign, visit
