The Honorable Patrick Kennedy has endorsed Donald Norcross for Congress in New Jersey’s First Congressional District. The two have worked closely on addressing issues on mental health, addiction and other brain diseases. Former Congressman Kennedy is widely considered the nation's leading political voice in the discussion of how mental health issues are addressed in the US.
"I am honored to call Donald Norcross my friend and proud to endorse him for Congress in New Jersey's First Congressional District. I can think of no greater advocate and champion for New Jersey's families. He is thoughtful and takes time to listen and learn about the issues important to his
constituents,” said Kennedy. “He has stood with me time and time again advocating for funding and strengthening laws that will ensure mental health, addiction and other brain diseases are treated like any other illness in America. I look forward to continuing to work alongside him to make sure people with brain disease get access to the treatments they need and deserve.”
Norcross is a member of the Congressional Bipartisan Task Force to Combat the Heroin Epidemic, has advocated for better access to mental health services for our nation's veterans, and has supported the expansion of drug courts which divert individuals struggling with addiction away from incarceration and toward much-needed treatment. As a state legislator, he championed legislation that made the life-saving naloxone overdose antidote widely available for first responders, and he continues to fight for common sense solutions to stop and treat opiate abuse.
“Congressman Kennedy's tireless efforts have brought about a vital shift in how mental health and addiction are treated in this country,” Norcross said. “His work has helped remove the stigma from such a deeply personal issue, and he is making it easier for people to access the services they need to heal. I am humbled to have the endorsement of such a pivotal leader in the mental health community, whose work has saved so many lives.”
Congressman Kennedy joins President Obama, Planned Parenthood, the CWA, the Sierra Club, the Human Rights Campaign, the NJEA, the Alliance for Retired Americans, the Democratic Parties of Burlington, Camden and Gloucester Counties, as well as countless activists, political leaders, and public officials representing diverse communities throughout New Jersey and the country who have stood with Congressman Norcross in his bid for re-election.
