I first met Congressman Donald Norcross, D-1st of Camden, when several South Jersey synagogues received notice from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security that we would be receiving grants for bolstering security.

Then state Sen. Norcross came to our synagogue to congratulate us and learn more about who we were and what the grant would be used for. He exhibited a great understanding of local and global threats, and assured us that the security of his constituents was a top priority.

In August, Norcross stood in front of 500 of his constituents and eloquently and bravely outlined his concerns with the Iran deal and why he opposed it. Risking his good standing among House Democrats, Norcross stood with his constituents for what was right — not for what was easy.

Later, because of a bureaucratic technicality, the Department of Homeland Security tried to take back the security funding South Jersey synagogues had won. Norcross went into overdrive and made sure the funds stayed where they belonged. He also ensured that future funding available to synagogues would increase by 50 percent.

Members of the South Jersey Jewish community know we have a friend in Washington who listens to our concerns and stands up for what is right. We need proven leaders in government who are experienced in getting the work done, listening to constituents and making tough choices, which is why I’m proud to be one voter who will be supporting Donald Norcross in the primary on June 7.
