On Monday, U.S. Rep. Donald Norcross [NJ-01] announced that $546,727 was awarded to the university from the U.S. Department of Justice for forensic science and criminal justice research.

“All of our South Jersey institutions are working to reduce crime — at the research, enforcement and community development levels — and we’re seeing the hard work pay off as safety continues to improve in the City of Camden,” Norcross said in a statement. “This grant will allow for game-changing forensics discovery right here in our backyard and will positively impact on our local economy. I’m proud to see the next generation of local students and researchers transforming the law enforcement field for the better.”

On October 2, 2018, U.S. Congressman Donald Norcross (NJ-01) announced that five South Jersey Fire Departments have been awarded $827,558 total in Assistance to Firefighter Grants (AFG) from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. This federal funding will allow the departments to hire more firefighters, buy new equipment and enhance safety measures.

“This federal funding will help protect those who are protecting us,” said Congressman Donald Norcross. “These grants will allow our local departments to hire more firefighters and ensure our first responders have the equipment they need to best serve our communities day in and day out. We must do all we can to keep our firehouses well-staffed and keep our firefighters as safe as possible when they are battling fires and saving lives.”

On Monday, before a packed house at Camden City Hall, the Eagles’ Pro Bowl safety and two-time Super Bowl winner was awarded the one thing he never previously received—a key to a city.

In a ceremony that featured Camden Mayor Frank Moran, U.S. Congressman Donald Norcross, and state senators Nilsa Cruz Perez and Jim Beach, Jenkins was awarded the Key to The City of Camden for his community efforts to support youth and the underserved through The Malcolm Jenkins Foundation, which now has branched out to four states, in Louisiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Jenkins’ native New Jersey.

U.S. Sens. Bob Menendez and Cory Booker, and Reps. Chris Smith, Tom MacArthur and Donald Norcross, applauded the good news, saying the new jets would help ensure the long-term viability of the installation for decades to come.

"These refueling tankers will bring new jobs to New Jersey and make our base an indispensable starting point for national security missions on the East Coast," Norcross, D-1st of Camden, added. "I've long been fighting to bring these tankers to South Jersey because the mission is crucial to both national security and the livelihood of the over 42,000 New Jerseyans who are employed at the base, as well as the local communities that will benefit once the tankers are located at the joint base."

"Everyone deserves an affordable, safe place to call home,” said Norcross in a statement. “These funds will help change lives and transform neighborhoods in Camden, and I will always support efforts like this that improve our city. Camden is rising – with more jobs, less crime and better educational opportunities – and this grant is another step in our city’s great revitalization.”
