An overflow crowd of thousands of supporters today cheered on Congressman Donald W. Norcross as he announced his re-election campaign during a 1:30PM event at his alma mater, Camden County College. Joining the Congressman on stage were New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy, Senator Cory Booker and Special Guest, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. Congressman Norcross, a member of Speaker Pelosi’s leadership team and Co-Chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, is seeking his fourth full term in office in a contest against a Trump-supporting Republican.

“Donald Norcross has spent his life, as a labor and community leader, a legislator in Trenton and, as the only electrician elected to Congress, as a relentless champion for labor and progressive issues,” said Speaker Pelosi today. “He is leading the fight to increase Americans’ paychecks at a time when the wages of our workers are falling further behind and we – all of us – need him to come back to Congress to continue and win that fight. That’s why I am here today and why I am proud to support his re-election.”

Today’s kick-off in the Papiano Gymnasium at Camden County College in Blackwood was attended by over 3,000 ticketed members of the public. Speaker Pelosi also attended a fundraiser with Congressman Norcross that raised an estimated $1.7 million to help Democrats in their quest to maintain the majority in the Congress.

“I am so proud to stand here today with my friends Nancy Pelosi, Phil Murphy and Cory Booker as I announce my reelection campaign and fight back against President Trump’s attacks on America’s families and the foundations of our democracy,” said Congressman Norcross today. “Whether we are working in our nation’s capital, or right here in South Jersey, we all are committed to the same things: fair wages for working men and women, increased access to affordable health care, a quality education for every child and protecting our environment.”

In Washington, Congressman Norcross has been a champion of policies that support the families and workers of the First Congressional District. He is a co-sponsor, with Senator Bernie Sanders, of the Raise the Wage Act, which would raise the minimum wage to $15 per hour, voted for the Paycheck Fairness Act to close the pay gap between men and women once and for all, and earned a perfect score from Planned Parenthood for his support of women’s health and reproductive rights. As a senior member of the House Armed Services Committee, Norcross has been a champion of South Jersey’s Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst and the 44,000 people who serve or work there. He proudly was one of the first Democrats to call for impeachment hearings.
