Today, U.S. Congressman Donald Norcross – a member of the House Committee on Education and Labor – celebrated the groundbreaking of the new Camden High School, which will be an approximately 270,000 square-foot school for around 1,200 ninth- through twelfth-grade students.

“Every child needs and deserves a safe place to learn with all of the necessary resources, tools and technology available to them,” said Congressman Norcross. “It has taken us nearly 20 years to get to this point where shovels are finally piercing the ground and I am proud to have fought tooth and nail for this vital investment in our community, our children and our future. It’s exciting for everyone in Camden that we’re moving forward so that all students are afforded the best of the best.”

In the New Jersey State Senate, Norcross was Chairman of the School Facilities and Construction Subcommittee in the Joint Committee on the Public Schools and prioritized investments at Camden City High School. Norcross focused on repair and maintenance of the old school from 2010-2015 and, in 2016, continued his commitment to students’ future by helping obtain a commitment by the New Jersey Schools Development Authority (SDA) to rebuild.

The construction site is located at 1700 Park Boulevard and photos from the groundbreaking and renderings from the Camden City School District are copied below. Construction costs are an estimated $133 million.
