Norcross Proposes 60-Cent Gasoline Price Cut

CAMDEN, NJ — Rep. Donald W. Norcross is proposing a new federal law that he believes could cut up to 60-cents per gallon off the price of gasoline and impose stiffer penalties for price-gouging at the pumps.

The congressman’s three-pronged approach would temporarily suspend the 18-cent federal gas tax; impose a penalty tax on “excessive” oil company profits, and allow the Federal Trade Commission to sue greedy oil companies

Norcross intends to introduce the federal measure – called the “Government Oversight of Unpatriotic Greed in Energy Act,” or GOUGE Act – when he returns to Washington, D.C. this week. He announced his proposal in Camden against the backdrop of a new multi-million-dollar 27th Street reconstruction project.
